5 Great Horror Classics You Can Watch For Free Right Now

The pandemic is altering a lot of our habits. One of the first things I did in 2020 was to cut my Netflix subscription. It hurt. I’m a massive film and TV fan. But I needed to save money. Thankfully, there are a ton of places where you can enjoy films for free. I’ve written about a few on an article for Dread Central. today, I want to talk to you a few of my favorite films. Not only that, but I’ll tell you how to watch them, courtesy of Tubi. Here are 5 Great Horror Classics You Can Watch For Free Right Now.

The Hills Have Eyes (1977)

Wes Craven’s bloody masterpiece is a must-watch for any horror fan worth their salt. The remake is surprisingly good, but the original holds up as well as a good merlot. As with most good horror, this gem is heavy with social commentary. Ah, yes, social commentary and bloods and guts. The recipe for any good horror movie.

Suspiria (1977)

Another film recently remade, Dario Argento’s Suspiria is a genre staple. Surprisingly, this isn’t the weirdest film on this list. But it certainly is the prettiest, and perhaps one of the most influential. A story surrounded by psychedelia, mystery and beautiful women (and men, really). What more could you possibly ask for? Oh, and the soundtrack is amazing. I’m a fan of horror, and I’m a fan of Argento.

The Baby (1973)

This one does take the cake for the weirdest entry, and it’s no mistake. Ted Post’s story about an adult man with the mind of a child isn’t for the faint of heart, and it’s certainly not without its flaws. But nothing like this could possibly be made today, and the acting is surprisingly strong. On both those counts, you should definitely give it a go.

Day of the Dead (1985)

What is there to be said about George A. Romero that hasn’t been said before? Not much, I’d argue. However, it’s always good to revisit the classics. And this one is personally one that I haven’t seen as much as the other ones. Romero’s of the Dead franchise was a lot more mature by this point, and it showed, particularly when it came to production value. One of the best horror classics you can watch for free, full stop.

Re-Animator (1985)

Production value? Well, Stuart Gordon’s got some. Re-Animator is so classic, it’s been mentioned and quoted all over the place. And I don’t say this just because I’ve met Barbara Crampton, but Barbara Crampton is incredible in it. A cautionary tale about the dangers of over-excited scientists, Re-Animator rings particularly true during a pandemic.
