The Passing Of A Legend – Sir Roger Moore 1927-2017

Today, as I sat in work listening to the radio, I was saddened to hear of the passing of a true British legend. Sir Roger Moore was reported by his family as having died following a short but brave battle with cancer.

Of course, Moore is fondly remembered by fans worldwide as having succeeded Sean Connery in iconic role of James Bond. In doing so, he brought a lot of himself to the role. Moore’s Bond was cool, collected, suave and had a knack for getting himself out of tricky situations with ease.

Moore wasn’t just known for Bond, however, having become a household name for his role as Simon Templar in The Saint as well as appearing in The Persuaders.

Offscreen, Moore was known for his legendary wit and good grace, often lampooning his own career. On his acting style, he made the following observation; “My acting range has always been something between the two extremes of ‘raises left eyebrow’ and ‘raises right eyebrow’.

While the number of  onscreen roles diminished later in life, his tireless charity work cemented his status as a true hero. As an ambassador for UNICEF, Moore was a great humanitarian and considered his charitable contributions as his greatest achievement.

The legendary star passed in Switzerland and will have a private funeral in Monaco. Our thoughts go out to his family.

Moore’s impact can never be diminished whether you know him as James Bond, Simon Templar or as a champion of childrens’ rights. To quote the theme to one of his best outings as Bond; ‘Nobody Does It Better’.

RIP Sir Roger Moore. You will be missed.
