Evercade – New Retro Handheld Console Coming Soon

Evercade

Yesterday, video game specialist Funstock Retro announced a new handheld gaming system. They hope that Retrocade is something that will excite many retro gaming fans. While no release date has been set yet, this new machine is promising something different to other retro platforms currently on the market. Certainly if the official website is anything to go by, it’s something that we haven’t seen before from a single device…

What Is Retrocade?

Unlike other retro systems, Retrocade is a cartridge based handheld system. While it is emulator based, games come on cartridge and are officially licensed from publishers. Retrocade haven’t announced any publishers as of yet, but  they will be announcing their first partners shortly. They have stated that it is their intention to focus on quality rather than quantity so they don’t intend to fill the machine with thousands of games.

It will offer save states for games, TV support via HDMI as well as a headphone socket but no pricing has been stated. Other details are fairly vague right now apart from information that it will support games from most 8-bit and 16-bit consoles. We are certainly intrigued about this new system but until we learn more we will be adopting a wait-and-see stance with it. Until we know how many games it ships with, what additional games will be available, pricing and further details, this remains too much of a mystery for now.

You can find out more and subscribe for updates over on the official Evercade website.
