Hyper Sentinel – Spiritual Successor To Uridium – Heading To PC and Consoles

If, like us, you’re a fan of retro gaming then the chances are that you’ve heard of Uridium. The side-scrolling shoot-em-up, developed for the Commodore 64 by Andrew Braybrook and released by Hewson Consultants was one of the C64s finest moments and is regarded as one of gaming’s all time classics. It’s no wonder that the game was chosen as one of the 30 titles to be included in the C64DTV Plug And Play Unit and is still played regularly by the legions of fans of the system today.

But that was back in 1986… Now Hewson are revisiting their classic game thanks to indie developer Jonathan Port. In collaboration with Hewson Consultants he has created Hyper Sentinel, a brand new retro-styled arcade shoot-em-up that has been styled on the classic C64 shooter and is currently being funded through a Kickstarter campaign to help bring the game to the PC, Android, iOS, PS4 and XBox One.

Creatively, in addition to Jonathan the development team includes Hewson’s Rob and Andrew Hewson immediately offering reassurance to retro gamers who may be concerned about the game’s pedigree, along with Rob Fenn who is handling the C64-inspired music and vocal sound effects. The game itself features a dozen levels of frantic gameplay, bosses and features not present in the original including new game modes and powerups, it’s already looking to be a sure fire winner. The game has attracted the attention of the retro gaming community and has already reached its funding goal and is now heading towards the second of its stretch goals. Future goals include Commodore 64, Spectrum and Amstrad graphics modes and other surprise targets yet to be announced. It’s one we’re certainly looking forward to.
